The Detroit Tigers announced the launch of Detroit Sportsnet, which will broadcast their games and NHL’s Red Wings games starting in the 2026-27 season. Subscriptions will cost $19.99 monthly or $189.99 yearly, with streaming available via the MLB app. While cable broadcast details are pending, the Tigers are moving away from a previous contract with Main Street Sports, which faced financial difficulties and defaulted on payments. After terminating their contract, most teams switched to MLB broadcasting, allowing for direct customer streaming but potentially reducing overall revenue. MLB teams are reportedly earning about 50% less than before; the Tigers previously received around $60 million from RSN deals.
In addition to broadcasting changes, the Tigers made significant financial moves, including a surprising arbitration victory for pitcher Tariq Skubal, who will earn $32 million instead of the expected $19 million. The team also signed free agents, including Framber Valdez for $115 million guaranteed, and is poised to set franchise salary records. Future details regarding TV channels and apps for accessing Red Wings games are still forthcoming, but on-air talent is expected to remain the same.
