Grinding Gear Games aims to release the full version of Path of Exile 2 (version 1.0) later this year, following a press conference where game director Jonathan Rogers confirmed the final early access patch, 0.5.0: Return of the Ancients, launching at the end of May. The anticipated full release will follow ExileCon in November.
Rogers emphasized that the new endgame elements introduced in the update are critical for the game’s launch. He reassured fans that significant work on Acts 5 and 6 is already underway, though certain character classes may be released after the game goes live. Currently, the game features eight character classes, with a total of twelve planned.
Rogers expressed confidence that the game will feel complete at launch, provided enough compelling content is available. The endgame will feature new mechanics and major questlines, but may also require player feedback to refine before the final release. While the studio is committed to meeting their timeline for 1.0, they won’t hesitate to continue iterating on the endgame as needed.
The Return of the Ancients patch will release on May 29 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. Early Access is currently paid, but the full game will be free upon launch.
