Netanyahu’s remarks come as public opinion appears to be shifting in the U.S., with surveys indicating a more favorable view of Mamdani among American Jews compared to Netanyahu. A recent AP-NORC poll found that 44% of Jewish adults view Mamdani somewhat or very favorably, while only about a third express a favorable opinion of Netanyahu.
Compounding these issues, a YouGov poll revealed that 46% of Americans believe Netanyahu should be arrested for his actions. While Mamdani previously stated he would arrest Netanyahu if he visited New York, he clarified that the city lacks the authority to do so. Netanyahu has made false claims that Mamdani and his family celebrated the deadly Hamas attacks on October 7, 2023, which killed around 1,100 people, a narrative that continues to be disputed.
