Silses, 26, who has a strong strikeout rate but struggles with control, is expected to bolster a young Rangers bullpen. He posted a 2.72 ERA in 47 games this season. Meanwhile, Ohoppe, a former top prospect, has faced challenges including injuries and a decline in performance, leading him to be assigned to Triple-A Round Rock rather than the MLB roster.
The Rangers are in need of depth at catcher due to injuries, and while Ohoppe’s production has dipped, he has potential as he rebounds from injuries. The Angels seem to be moving on from him, indicating a shift in their strategy as interim general manager John Mozeliak explores further roster changes.
Angel Arredondo, the prospect acquired by the Angels, is a 19-year-old infielder performing decently in Low-A but is not ranked among Texas’ top prospects. Mozeliak believes Arredondo is underrated and likely values him more than traditional rankings suggest.
