Despite the tension, Strickland claimed they are civil in public but raised concerns about a potential Chechen entourage attacking him. UFC security has implemented measures to ensure the fighters are kept apart, with reports that Strickland is staying separately from the other competitors.
Chimaev, who is defending his middleweight title against Strickland, expressed skepticism about the possibility of violence, saying he is under constant surveillance and challenging Strickland’s aggressive statements. Other fighters have noted the heightened safety measures, with one stating it feels surreal, almost like a movie.
As fight night approaches, both Chimaev and Strickland will only share the spotlight a couple of times before stepping into the Octagon, during a press conference and weigh-in. Strickland remains confident that no pre-fight violence will occur, emphasizing the UFC’s financial investment in the event.
