A fisherman in Minnesota, named Brodylock, discovered a submerged 1960s Buick in the Mississippi River using sonar over the weekend of August 9. He alerted authorities, leading to the retrieval of the vehicle by divers and tow truck crews. Inside, they found a human body, later identified as likely belonging to Roy Benn, who went missing in September 1967 at age 59. The car’s vehicle identification number confirmed its connection to Benn.
Local officials, including Benton County Sheriff Troy Heck, expressed gratitude for the breakthrough in this long-standing case. Benn was last seen carrying a large sum of money and driving a blue Buick Electra, and his disappearance had left his family seeking closure for decades. Benn was legally declared dead in 1975, and his brother had previously auctioned off his belongings.
Locke noted that they were fortunate to find the vehicle, emphasizing the serendipity of discovering the car and its significance for Benn’s family. The vehicle was heavily sedimented but structurally intact after being submerged for years.
