The FDA and CDC are investigating Taco Bell’s lettuce suppliers as consumers in four states are advised to avoid shredded lettuce due to a Cyclospora bacteria outbreak linked to Taylor Farms in Mexico. Testing revealed contaminated iceberg lettuce, prompting a recall of various bagged lettuce products distributed between June 29 and July 16. Taylor Farms is actively removing affected products and has stopped receiving shipments from the implicated suppliers. The outbreak has resulted in 1,644 reported cases and 94 hospitalizations across five states, though no fatalities have occurred. Taco Bell has voluntarily removed the potentially contaminated lettuce from its restaurants in those states. Consumers are urged to discard any recalled lettuce. Cyclospora infection can cause severe gastrointestinal symptoms.
