A federal ICE officer, David Brouillette, allegedly shot and killed Colombian man Joan Duran Guerrero during a traffic stop in Maine. Friends and ex-spouses describe Brouillette as having violent tendencies and racist beliefs. His ex-wife, Ashley Brouillette, detailed past abuse in their marriage, including threats with a gun, although she recanted some of her complaints in the past. She expressed concern that racism might have influenced Duran Guerrero’s death, highlighting Brouillette’s use of racial slurs in high school.
Brouillette’s friend, Scott Collins, corroborated claims of his violent behavior, stating he often sought out fights. Ashley described ongoing mental health issues during their marriage, indicating past attempts to raise awareness about his behavior were dismissed. Following the shooting, she expressed a desire to ensure such tragedies do not recur. The ICE agency has yet to comment on Brouillette’s situation, with questions raised about whether appropriate background checks were conducted before his hiring.
