Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) for capturing Lebanon’s Beaufort Castle and surrounding areas, calling it a significant shift in Israeli military policy. This advancement comes amid a ground offensive against Hezbollah, which has been launching attacks on northern Israel.
Amid escalating tensions, a Hezbollah drone injured four Israeli soldiers, and one soldier was killed in recent clashes. Netanyahu emphasized Israel’s commitment to expanding control over territories previously held by Hezbollah, stating that they have eliminated thousands of Hezbollah fighters since the conflict intensified following the October 2023 Hamas-led invasion.
Defense Minister Israel Katz echoed Netanyahu’s sentiments, asserting that the operation sends a warning to adversaries. France, concerned about the escalating situation, called for a UN Security Council meeting to address Israeli military actions in Lebanon, while Israel maintained that it acts against Iranian-backed threats.
Beaufort Castle, historically significant and strategically located, marks a renewed assertiveness from Israel in the region, and officials indicated that Israeli forces will remain stationed there as part of security operations.
