A federal judge in Miami has confirmed the case of Timothy Hudson, a teenager charged with the sexual assault and murder of his 18-year-old stepsister, Anna Kepner, aboard a Carnival cruise ship. Initially arrested as a juvenile, Hudson was allowed to live with his uncle under electronic monitoring. However, after his case moved to adult court, prosecutors sought his detention, citing the seriousness of the charges and concerns about community safety.
Kepner’s body was discovered hidden in their shared cabin, with the cause of death ruled as mechanical asphyxia. Prosecutors argue Hudson poses a danger and a flight risk, especially since conviction could lead to life in prison. Although Hudson has complied with previous release conditions, the judge has yet to determine his detention situation, considering both his age and the nature of the charges.
Kepner’s father expressed confidence in the justice process, emphasizing the pain and complexity of the situation for their family. Anna was remembered fondly at her memorial service, with family encouraging colorful attire to celebrate her spirit.
