Early Monday morning, several ambulances from a Jewish volunteer rescue group were set on fire outside a synagogue in Golders Green, home to London’s largest Jewish community. The Metropolitan Police are investigating the incident as an anti-Semitic hate crime.
Residents reported hearing loud explosions as firefighters responded to the scene. Security footage showed three masked individuals igniting a Hatzolah Northwest ambulance, and police confirmed they are searching for these suspects.
Shloimi Richman, chairman of Hatzolah Northwest, stated that four of their six ambulances were intentionally targeted. Local residents expressed their shock and concern over the incident, calling for increased police patrols in the area.
The attack has raised alarms within the Jewish community, particularly as anti-Semitic incidents in the UK have been rising. Britain’s Chief Rabbi condemned the attack, emphasizing the essential service Hatzolah provides to both Jews and non-Jews.
Police have promised heightened security and investigation efforts in the community. Hatzolah, a not-for-profit organization, responds to numerous emergencies each year, reflecting its critical role in the local area.
