City Utilizes PHLPlow Technology for Winter Storm Response
PHILADELPHIA – Mayor Sherrell L. Parker updated residents as a significant winter storm continues to affect the area, with the National Weather Service reporting 14 inches of snow at Philadelphia International Airport. Travel is hazardous, and residents are advised to avoid unnecessary trips while efforts to clear roads intensify.
City officials announced that parking is restricted on emergency routes until the snow emergency is lifted, and the Philadelphia Parking Authority is offering $5 parking in designated garages.
Over 1,000 city personnel and more than 800 pieces of equipment are mobilized for snow operations, treating both major and residential roads. New technology, specifically the PHLPlow interactive map, allows residents to track snow removal efforts in real time. As of 4 p.m., 71% of city roads had been treated.
In addressing vulnerable populations, there were over 250 overnight stays at warming centers, with additional centers being established as needed. The city also emphasizes support through the Homeless Urban Assistance Hotline.
Due to the storm’s impact, trash and recycling collections are temporarily suspended, with delays expected in the collection schedule. The Philadelphia Water Department remains operational, assisting with snow removal.
Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel, clear sidewalks, and support vulnerable neighbors during the storm. For real-time updates, residents can check the city’s official channels and emergency alerts.
