Evacuation orders in Los Angeles and Ventura counties have been lifted, but California officials warn that forecasted hot, dry weather could lead to rapid fire growth this weekend. The Canyon Fire, currently controlled at 5,370 acres with 28% containment, showed minimal overnight activity as firefighters reinforced control lines. Previously, evacuation orders affecting 4,200 residents in LA County have been downgraded to warnings, while around 12,500 remain under alert. Ventura County’s evacuation orders have also been reduced in several areas.
Additionally, the Gifford Fire, the largest in California, has burned 111,557 acres with only 21% containment and evacuation orders in place for parts of San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties. The ongoing extreme heat and historically dry conditions increase wildfire risks across the state.
