Moldova has declared a 60-day state of emergency in its energy sector due to disruptions in power supply caused by Russia’s attack on Ukraine, which has affected its main power lines with Europe. Prime Minister Alexandre Munteanu urged citizens to conserve energy during peak hours as restoration of the lines is expected to take up to a week. Moldova’s President Maia Sandu and the Foreign Ministry have blamed Russia for the crisis.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy condemned Russia’s recent extensive drone attacks on Ukraine, describing them as an act of “absolute depravity.” He emphasized that these actions indicate Russia’s unwillingness to end the war and affirmed Ukraine’s intention to respond to the attacks.
Russia’s military reported the downing of 389 Ukrainian drones in one of its largest assaults to date and has intensified its offensive aimed at diminishing Ukrainian resistance. The attacks included a significant drone barrage that struck various regions in Ukraine, causing casualties and damage to historic sites.
In a diplomatic context, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un expressed gratitude to Vladimir Putin for support as the two countries consolidate their ties amid the ongoing conflict. North Korea has reportedly provided troops and military resources to assist Russia, while receiving food and weapon technology in return.
