The state of Ohio will allocate $1 million to support 16 children, found in severe neglect conditions in a home filled with feces and urine, after being labeled “nearly feral” due to their traumatic living situation. The children, aged 18 months to 18 years, are now in temporary care following their removal from a home in Vinton County, a rural area with limited resources.
Prosecutors are pursuing harsh penalties for the children’s parents and grandparents, who face multiple felony charges for child endangerment. Concerns about costly medical treatment for one defendant led to a change in bond conditions.
The funding will help cover essential services for the children, including support and treatment, while also addressing additional costs associated with the legal case. A local agency plans to set up a trust fund to manage the donations received to aid the children.
