Ahmad Alsak, a 28-year-old asylum-seeking immigrant, allegedly beat and choked his partner, Jamie Carney, in their home in Killarney, Ireland, leading to her death from asphyxiation. Carney’s 13-year-old daughter found her mother with severe head injuries. After the incident, Alsak fled to Turkey shortly before police identified him as a person of interest in the investigation.
Irish National Police issued an alert and warned ports and airports to be on high alert for Alsak, who had sought asylum in Ireland after arriving from the Middle East in 2024. He had connections to Turkey, Syria, and Jordan, and was last seen with Carney before her death. Neighbors reported hearing an argument coming from the house, and police believe DNA evidence from previous visits could complicate the case against him.
Alsak and Carney had reportedly met at an anti-Israel protest and had been dating for a few months. Despite their troubled relationship, he publicly expressed affection for her on social media. Carney had been politically active, advocating for Palestinian liberation and expressing criticism of ICE.
The investigation continues as authorities work to trace Alsak’s movements following the crime.
