Israel has conducted its first strikes against Houthi targets in Yemen, hitting a port and power plant in response to missile attacks from the Iran-backed Houthis. The Israeli Defense Force (IDF) reported intercepting a missile and targeting Houthi-controlled ports and a cargo ship, the “Galaxy Leader.” Israeli Defense Minister Katz stated that the operation, dubbed “Black Flag,” aims to hold the Houthis accountable for their actions. The Houthis confirmed the strikes, claiming they successfully defended against them with local air defenses.
Following these developments, the Houthis targeted the bulk carrier “Magic Seas,” accusing it of ties to Israel. The ship’s crew was safely evacuated amid reports of damage. The UAE’s Foreign Affairs Department assisted in the rescue. Despite a previous agreement to halt attacks on US vessels, the Houthis continue to target other ships they suspect of Israeli connections, maintaining their missile attacks on Israel, allegedly to support Palestinians in Gaza.
