Israeli military forces have mobilized approximately 60,000 reservists as part of preparations for a planned ground attack aiming to capture Gaza City. This operation follows a September mission report and will involve mostly active-duty troops. Military activities are currently underway in the Zeitoun and Jabaria areas, following a plan approved by Defense Minister Katz. Amid this escalation, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians are being urged to move southward for safety.
The Israeli government intends to conquer the entire Gaza Strip after failed indirect negotiations with Hamas regarding a ceasefire and hostage release. Regional mediators are seeking a 60-day ceasefire and the release of around half of the 50 hostages held by Hamas, but Israel demands a comprehensive deal for all hostages’ release.
The Israeli Defense Force (IDF) is describing the planned operations as “incremental” and “accurate,” with multiple departments participating in the attack. Defense Minister Katz stated that Gaza will be significantly altered post-operation. Meanwhile, humanitarian organizations have expressed grave concerns about the potential impact of increased military action on civilians already suffering severe hardships.
As the conflict continues, over 62,000 people have reportedly died in Gaza since the beginning of hostilities on October 7, 2023, triggered by a Hamas-led attack on Israel, which resulted in around 1,200 Israeli deaths. The humanitarian situation in Gaza remains dire, with facilities overwhelmed and food shortages escalating.
