Police in the UK have arrested over 100 individuals, including more than 50 in Parliament Square, during protests against the government’s ban on the pro-Palestinian group, Palestinian Actions, which was designated a terrorist organization. Demonstrations occurred in multiple cities, including London, Edinburgh, Manchester, and Bristol, where protesters held placards stating their opposition to genocide and support for Palestinian actions.
The Metropolitan Police arrested 55 people near the Gandhi statue in Parliament Square on suspicion of terrorist crimes, with many of those detained being elderly. Other arrests included 17 in Bristol and eight in Truro, while Greater Manchester Police apprehended 16 individuals for allegedly supporting the banned group.
Despite the arrests, Palestinian Action, which has been active in protesting against arms companies during the Gaza conflict, aims to challenge the ban in an upcoming High Court hearing. Last week, similar protests resulted in 71 arrests nationwide, following a damaging incident at a military base that led to the group’s ban.
