Qatar Airways conducted an internal review regarding an incident on a flight from Melbourne to Doha, where the body of a woman who died during the flight was placed next to an Australian couple, Jennifer Collin and Mitchell Ring. The airline stated that the crew acted “promptly, appropriately and professionally,” and they issued an apology for the “inconvenience and pain” the incident caused.
Collin recounted that the cabin crew struggled to navigate through the aisles due to the woman’s size and ultimately placed her body next to Ring, asking him to move. Collin described feeling disturbed by the proximity to the deceased. Qatar Airways explained that their protocol for handling such situations complies with training and industry standards, asserting that the crew remained with the deceased throughout the flight and accommodated passengers in other seats.
The airline acknowledged the unfortunate reality of unexpected deaths in aviation and emphasized their commitment to treating such incidents with respect and dignity. They also offered support and compensation to affected passengers.
