Qatar Airways has made significant service cuts, reducing over 12,000 planned flights for April and May and suspending operations to more than 60 destinations. Notably, all eight of its Airbus A380 aircraft will be grounded during this period, contingent on the ongoing war in Iran, which might lead to ticket refunds being offered until July.
The A380 fleet, which includes ten aircraft, has largely remained inactive since 2020, with some previously operating in March before being parked. As of April 6th, Qatar Airways plans to reintroduce the A380 starting June 1, with five flights scheduled that day to key destinations like London and Sydney.
Throughout this reduction, overall A380 operations globally have fallen by 7%, influenced by Qatar’s grounding and cuts from other Gulf carriers like Emirates and Etihad Airways. Only Singapore Airlines experienced a minor reduction due to changes in their routes.
