Three people were killed, and several others injured when an elderly woman’s silver Mercedes sedan crashed into the 99 Ranch Market in Westwood on Thursday. The accident began with her hitting a bicyclist before continuing to the grocery store, where multiple people were trapped under the vehicle, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. Authorities do not suspect the crash was intentional.
The deceased include two men, aged 30 and 55, and a 42-year-old woman. Four others were hospitalized, with two men in critical condition and two others suffering minor injuries. Both the driver and the cyclist refused medical attention.
Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with bystanders helping to extract an unresponsive man from the building. Investigators are examining potential medical issues related to the driver’s ability to operate the vehicle. Local officials expressed their condolences and support for the victims’ families, while first responders were praised for their quick action at the scene. The structure of the store was assessed and found to be stable despite the damage.
