A Florida anesthesiologist, Helen Massiel Garay Sanchez, 32, died last year after being found naked in a freezer at a Dollar Tree in Miami. Her family has filed a $50 million lawsuit against the store, alleging negligence and failure to assist her after she went missing. According to police, she was last seen entering the store before it closed on December 14, leaving no record of a purchase.
The lawsuit claims Dollar Tree staff, including store manager Yanelkis Gonzalez, ignored requests to review surveillance footage when a customer reported Sanchez missing. The complaint further alleges that the store did not maintain safety protocols, failed to secure walk-in freezers, and neglected adequate training for employees. While foul play is not suspected, the investigation remains ongoing.
Sanchez is remembered as a dedicated physician and mother, and a GoFundMe campaign highlights her contributions to medicine and her commitment to her family.
