Sunny Sethi and HEN Technologies: Disrupting Fire Safety
Sunny Sethi, the founder of HEN Technologies, is innovating in the long-stagnant fire safety industry by creating fire extinguishing nozzles that extinguish fires up to three times faster and use 67% less water than traditional nozzles. Sethi, whose background includes a PhD in surfaces and adhesion and experience in nanotechnology and renewable energy, was inspired to tackle fire safety after experiencing severe wildfires in California.
In 2020, he established HEN Technologies near Hayward, California, focusing on optimizing nozzle performance through computational fluid dynamics research. HEN’s innovations extend beyond nozzles, including smart equipment for fire departments, capable of tracking water usage, pressure, and environmental conditions. This technology addresses communication gaps between fire services and water suppliers, crucial for effective firefighting.
HEN has developed a cloud platform designed for real-time data analysis in firefighting, potentially aiding in logistics and resource allocation. Despite competition from established companies, Sethi believes HEN’s unique focus on combining hardware and data analytics sets it apart.
In 2023, HEN initiated revenue-generating partnerships with fire departments and anticipates growth from $200,000 in revenue to $20 million within a year. Their team includes veterans from esteemed tech and aerospace firms, underscoring their commitment to advanced software development.
HEN recently secured $20 million in Series A funding and aims to leverage the data collected from its systems for further innovation, particularly in AI applications needing real-world fire behavior data. Sethi is optimistic about the company’s future and plans to continue fundraising to enhance HEN’s offerings.
