Lane Kiffin left Ole Miss amid significant criticism from fans and players, who accused him of dishonesty regarding his departure. Kiffin claimed he sought to coach the Rebels during their College Football Playoff appearance but was denied by athletic director Keith Carter. This was contested by several Ole Miss players, including offensive lineman Brycen Sanders, who suggested that the team was not informed of Kiffin’s alleged request. Linebacker Suntarine Perkins added that Kiffin’s message differed from what was discussed in meetings.
Former players echoed their disappointment, with defensive tackle Tarikitius Tisdale labeling Kiffin a “snake.” Meanwhile, Kiffin, who has since been appointed LSU’s head coach, expressed sadness about leaving Ole Miss but noted the difficulty of the decision. He reported that he learned shortly before a team meeting that he wouldn’t be allowed to coach during the CFP and acknowledged the disappointment over not being able to explain the situation to his players directly.
