Rick Matthews recently completed his years-long quest to ride every roller coaster in the United States, ending with a ride on the children’s coaster at Yesterland Farm in Canton, Texas, marking his 1,091st coaster. His original plan was to wrap up his adventure in Texas, where it began, but unexpected developments at the Circuit of the Americas led him to adjust his route.
Matthews drove thousands of miles, taking multiple flights, to meet his goal. Yesterland Farm’s limited operating hours meant he had to save his final ride for a specific weekend. He managed to ride the “Circuit Breaker” during a Formula One event before experiencing the “Road Trip Rollercoaster,” a vintage coaster he described as “relatively standard” but thrilling nonetheless.
Matthews shared the challenges he faced in riding children’s coasters, noting he couldn’t access a few due to weight restrictions. Despite the rough rides on older coasters, his love for amusement parks fueled his passion, leading him to meet fellow enthusiasts along the way.
Now, Matthews has set a new goal: riding every wooden roller coaster in the world, with 19 left to conquer, the majority in China. He plans to travel there in December to continue his adventures.
