A New York man, Lorenz Kraus, was arrested after confessing in a television interview that he killed his parents eight years ago and buried them in his backyard. The Albany Police Department acted on a financial investigation into potential misuse of his parents’ Social Security benefits, leading to the discovery of their bodies. Kraus, 53, admitted to strangling his 92-year-old father and 83-year-old mother, claiming he did so out of concern for their declining health. Following his confession during the interview, Kraus was charged with two counts of murder and two counts of human corpse concealment, to which he pleaded not guilty. A neighbor noted that the elderly couple had been missing since June 2017 and that Kraus had given vague explanations about their absence. Despite the shocking nature of the case, an assistant to Kraus emphasized his presumption of innocence and raised concerns about the context of his televised confession.
