Texas has surpassed California as the state with the most Fortune 500 company headquarters, with a count of 57 to 56 on the 2026 list. Congresswoman Beth Van Dine attributes this shift to Texas’s favorable policies and robust business community.
Dell Technologies recently announced that its shareholders overwhelmingly approved a move to change the company’s legal incorporation from Delaware to Texas, with Michael Dell highlighting the significance of this decision on social media. He stated that Texas is home to Dell, where the company has innovated and invested for over 40 years.
The transition to Texas will also shift future legal disputes from Delaware’s Court of Chancery to Texas courts, which are considered more business-friendly. This follows a similar move by Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who praised Dell’s decision. Musk had previously moved Tesla’s and SpaceX’s legal entities to Texas after a Delaware ruling jeopardized his compensation package.
Dell Technologies, founded in a University of Texas dorm in 1984, has a long-standing presence in Texas, including offices and a major headquarters in Round Rock.
