The Twins have designated right-hander Simeon Woods Richardson for assignment and called up Jon Klein from Triple-A to fill the 26-man roster spot. Woods Richardson struggled with a 7.74 ERA over 47 2/3 innings, showing an alarming balance of 26 strikeouts and 25 walks. After being removed from the starting rotation two weeks ago, he returned due to an injury to Kendry Rojas but had a poor outing against the White Sox, allowing five runs in 2 2/3 innings.
Despite a few decent appearances in relief, the Twins were not satisfied with Woods Richardson’s performance, especially considering he has no minor league options left. His high .339 BABIP and low 57.9% strand rate, alongside a troubling 5.74 SIERA, suggest deeper issues beyond bad luck, including nine home runs allowed.
Previously a top-100 prospect and a regular starter, Woods Richardson held a 4.11 ERA in 245 innings from 2024 to 2025. However, his effectiveness decreased in 2026, with a significant drop in strikeout rate and ineffective pitches.
Rojas is now on the 15-day injured list with elbow inflammation, further complicating the Twins’ rotation, which has already been hit by injuries to Pablo Lopez, David Festa, and Mick Abel. Woods Richardson could become a target for teams needing pitching depth due to his age and pre-arbitration status.
