A former CIA official, David Rush, was arrested following an FBI investigation that revealed $40 million in gold bars at his home. The inquiry began over allegations he lied about his educational and military background. Rush faces a charge of theft of public funds, accused of fraudulently claiming inflated pay, military leave, and making multiple false statements about his career.
According to court filings, he is currently detained while the FBI and CIA conduct further investigations. Rush allegedly made requests for substantial sums of foreign currency and gold bullion for work-related purposes from November 2025 to March 2023. In addition to the gold, agents found $2 million in cash and 35 luxury watches.
The FBI also claims he falsified his academic credentials, misrepresenting himself on multiple government applications, including misleading claims of having graduated from several prestigious institutions. His military service claims were similarly exaggerated, as he reported being in the Naval Reserves after his honorable discharge. A detention hearing scheduled for June 5 has been postponed as both his defense and federal prosecutors gather more information.
