Hainan Airlines is set to modify its long-haul route from Beijing (PEK) to Boston (BOS), eliminating a stopover in Brussels (BRU) during the summer months. This change, transitioning back to a non-stop service, marks the end of a 36-hour round-the-world itinerary that included a technical stop for refueling and crew changes. The previous direct flights had been suspended due to COVID-19 and the closure of Russian airspace, complicating travel routes.
The non-stop service will resume from June 3 to August 30, 2023, operating three times a week on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. The outbound flight (HU729) departs Beijing at 1:20 PM and arrives in Boston at 4:40 PM the following day, while the return flight (HU730) will take about 16 hours instead of the previous 19.5 hours due to the removal of the Brussels stop.
Hainan Airlines will use the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner for this route, which accommodates between 289 to 294 passengers in various seating arrangements. The airline’s revised operations represent a significant change in its long-haul strategy amidst a transformed airline landscape.
