A wildfire named the Sandy Fire broke out in Simi Valley on May 18, causing damage to at least one property. The Ventura County Fire Department reported rapid spread in the area around Sandy Avenue. Smoke from the fire was observable in the San Fernando Valley, though Mayor Karen Bass assured that the wildfire is not expected to reach Los Angeles. The fire has grown to over 1,300 acres, intensifying evacuation measures.
