Microsoft has launched Xbox Mode on Windows 11 PCs, a “console-inspired experience” rolling out in phases to select markets. Xbox Mode offers a controller-optimized user interface, giving players direct access to Xbox PC games, PC Game Pass titles, and other storefront games.
Originally part of the ROG Xbox Ally handheld, Xbox Mode addresses feedback that navigating Windows on such devices was cumbersome and resource-intensive. It features a custom, full-screen interface based on the Xbox PC app, designed to minimize distractions while enhancing game accessibility.
The rollout aims to provide more options for players, especially those using controllers, allowing for a smoother experience than the standard Windows desktop. Xbox Mode can be accessed via Windows Update and the Xbox Game Bar (Windows key + G).
The initiative is part of a broader effort to create a consistent Xbox experience across different screens and give players greater flexibility in how they game.
