Oprah Winfrey has entered a multi-year exclusive deal with Amazon, allowing the platform’s Wonderful Podcast Network to distribute her podcast, “The Oprah Podcast,” as well as her “Oprah’s Book Club” and “Oprah’s Favorite Things” franchises, alongside a back catalog of the original “Oprah Winfrey Show.”
The deal includes both video and audio distribution rights, with plans for the podcast to increase its output to two episodes per week starting this summer. “The Oprah Podcast” will be accessible through various Amazon services like Prime Video, Audible, and Fire TV, while remaining available on YouTube and major podcast platforms.
Winfrey expressed her commitment to fostering important conversations through her podcast. The initiative is part of Amazon’s strategy to focus on celebrity-driven content, with recent restructuring leading the Wondery podcast network to emphasize integration with Audible.
The financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed, and the deal was negotiated by CAA and Loeb & Loeb for Harpo Entertainment. The acquisition of Wondery by Amazon in 2020 was reportedly for $300 million.
