A major closure at the Route 30 and Route 222 interchange in Lancaster County is set to begin at 9 p.m. on Friday, April 17, lasting until 5 a.m. on Monday, April 20. PennDOT spokesman Mike Krotunis noted that both eastbound and westbound Route 30 and Route 222 will be affected due to significant construction, including the installation of bridge girders for a new structure that will facilitate traffic from eastbound Route 30 to northbound Route 222.
Motorists are advised to plan for delays, particularly on detours such as Lititz Pike and Route 23. The overall project is progressing on schedule, set for completion by the end of 2027, with this being the third year of a four-year initiative. Krotunis indicated that while this closure is the largest, smaller disruptions will continue, including lane restrictions and nighttime ramp closures.
Detour routes are established for the closure, and all drivers are encouraged to remain cautious in the work zones. The new bridge is expected to be substantially complete by the end of this year, though it won’t open for two-lane traffic until next summer. This work is part of a larger project aimed at enhancing the interchange and upgrading surrounding roadways.
