Drones were reported flying over four Danish airports, leading Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen to label it a “hybrid attack.” The drones were said to be operated by “professional actors” aiming to sow fear, although details about their origin remain unclear. Flights at affected airports—Earlborg, Esbjerg, Sønderborg, and Skrydstrup—were suspended for hours, and officials stressed that there was no public risk.
Danish Justice Minister Peter Hummelgaard indicated the need for new legislation to combat drone threats, while previous drone activity at Copenhagen Airport raised concerns of potential Russian involvement. Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen described that incident as the “most serious attack” on Denmark’s critical infrastructure.
The Russian Embassy denied any involvement, suggesting accusations were unfounded provocations. Security concerns in Northern Europe have intensified due to Russia’s aggressive actions, prompting NATO to reinforce its commitment to protecting airspace in the region.
