KSAT conducted an investigation into the safety of water at San Antonio splash pads, highlighting concerns from parents about potential contamination. At Martin Luther King Park, Victor Orozco enjoys the splash pad, but his mom, Samantha Silva, acknowledges worries about the water’s cleanliness. Observations noted that dirt from the ground could mix with the water, raising concerns about children accidentally ingesting it.
To address these concerns, KSAT collected water samples from seven splash pads and tested for harmful bacteria, specifically coliforms and E. coli. Results indicated that all samples had virtually no bacteria, assuring parents of the water’s safety.
San Antonio’s Parks and Recreation Department emphasized their safety measures, including automatic adjustments of chlorine and pH levels and daily monitoring. Parents expressed relief at the test results, appreciating the added security for their children’s play environment.
