Highly rated window air conditioners from MIDEA are being recalled due to mold buildup linked to inadequate water drainage. These AC units, praised by the New York Times and sold under various brand names like Frigidaire and Keystone, are responsible for about 1.7 million recalls. Mold exposure poses significant health risks, including respiratory issues, with the CPSC reporting 152 instances of mold-related complaints, including 17 cases of respiratory infections and allergic reactions.
The recall was initiated on June 5, as issues have persisted since 2023, despite advice for users to run the AC fan and install it at a slight angle to facilitate drainage. Consumers are urged to contact MIDEA for free repairs or refunds based on the purchase date.
