A fast-moving wildfire, named the Claremont Fire, in the Boise foothills has prompted evacuations and trail closures. The fire, reported at 1:30 p.m. near Crestline Drive and Claremont Drive, quickly spread to about 2,000 acres, though no structures were at risk by 4:45 p.m., as crews successfully protected several homes in Mountain Cove. A significant multi-agency response included fire engines, aircraft, and heavy equipment.
Evacuations were ordered for homes and the Boise Foothills Trail System, with emergency alerts sent out. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) announced the temporary closure of public lands and trails in the area. The closure, effective from 8:00 PM on July 6, 2026, to July 11, 2026, does not impact private property. Fire officials emphasized the need for fire prevention, citing dry conditions in the foothills. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with no estimated time for extinguishment provided.
