The author recalls growing up in southeastern Idaho, particularly in Cache Valley, where family and fishing trips fostered a deep connection with the area. In 1983, the father’s job led to frequent visits to Rexburg, enhancing the family’s love for Idaho. When the author’s kids aimed to explore all 50 states, it provided the perfect opportunity to delve into northern Idaho.
The journey began in Stanley, where they enjoyed rafting on the Salmon River and hiking near Redfish Lake, praised for its beauty and kid-friendly trails. Next, they traveled to Coeur d’Alene, where the expansive lake and charming beach activities captivated the family, making it an ideal spot for relaxation and exploration.
Afterward, they drove to McCall, spotting wildlife along the way. The highlight in McCall was Payette Lake and Ponderosa State Park, offering peaceful landscapes and hot springs. The trip concluded in Boise with a visit to Zoo Boise and other family-friendly spots, ensuring the kids had fun despite the lengthy travel. The stay at Element Boise Downtown proved comfortable before the return journey.
