A giant inflatable doll of Elon Musk was displayed in New York City’s Times Square, surrounded by black banners accusing his AI company, xAI, of producing “AI child pornography.” The demonstration, organized by Safe AI Now (SAIN), took place before SpaceX’s IPO and highlighted concerns about the company’s practices regarding the generation of non-consensual sexual images, including those of minors.
SpaceX, worth $1.77 trillion, is set for the largest IPO in history, with shares starting at $135. Despite this, Musk retains majority voting power, raising concerns about accountability as legal liabilities may fall on shareholders. SAIN emphasized that the IPO reflects a shift in responsibility, asserting that Musk’s decisions pose real risks to investors.
The scrutiny of xAI follows several lawsuits, including one from three girls alleging the creation of nude images and another from Ashley St. Clair, Musk’s child’s mother. The European Commission is investigating the company for its AI chatbot’s capacity to generate explicit images, with significant public concern regarding the normalization of such content. SAIN fears this IPO could normalize harmful practices associated with Grok.
