The Toronto Blue Jays have acquired right-hander Simeon Woods-Richardson from the Minnesota Twins for cash consideration. This move comes as the Blue Jays transferred left-handed relief pitcher Joe Mantiply to the 60-day injured list after he underwent knee surgery, clearing a roster spot.
Woods-Richardson’s history with Toronto dates back to 2019, when they acquired him from the Mets in the Marcus Stroman trade. He was ranked among the top pitching prospects but was later traded to Minnesota in 2021 as part of the deal for José Berrios. Despite a promising start to his career, including a solid performance in 2024-2025 with a low 4.00 ERA, his trajectory took a downturn this season, resulting in poor performances that led the Twins to designate him for assignment.
The Blue Jays, dealing with a decimated rotation due to injuries, may utilize Woods-Richardson as a spot starter or in the bullpen. He is currently earning a league-minimum salary and will be eligible for arbitration as a Super 2 player this winter.
