Summary of "Replaced" Review
"Replaced" is a 2.5D action platformer set in an alternate ’80s America, where players control an AI named REACH who has taken over the body of a scientist named Dr. Warren Marsh. The objective is to return to the lab and unpair from Marsh after a tumultuous incident.
The game’s 16-bit inspired graphics create a visually captivating world reminiscent of classic 2D RPGs, enriched with modern 3D effects. Players navigate through various environments, including neon-lit streets and abandoned labs. Despite some engaging combat mechanics, issues with unresponsive controls can hinder gameplay, especially during fights.
Combat features strategic mechanics, but the platforming sections are more consistent and enjoyable. Stealth sequences with drones introduce a hacking mini-game, though they can feel repetitive.
Side quests in the non-combat hub slow down the narrative but provide valuable rewards. Nonetheless, the emotional storyline and the unique character development of the AI keep players invested. Overall, "Replaced" presents a captivating sci-fi dystopian experience with potential for improvement through patches.
