A Florida woman, Brandi Buckley, has been awarded $14 million after unknowingly swallowing metal nails and shards in her ice cream from Blaster’s Ice Cream in Palm Bay. Buckley ordered butter pecan ice cream on September 11, 2018, and initially mistook the foreign objects for pecans. After feeling something lodged in her throat, she discovered the nails through an X-ray.
The incident resulted in severe and permanent injuries, including significant scarring, loss of physical function, and ongoing neurological issues that affected her and her husband’s ability to have children. Buckley incurred substantial medical costs and lost income due to her condition.
The lawsuit, filed against multiple Brustar entities, claimed negligence in ensuring food safety. Initially seeking over $15,000, the jury awarded $14 million due to the seriousness of her injuries. Legal experts suggest the judgment reflects the high stakes involved in personal injury, particularly regarding reproductive rights.
