A man fatally stabbed four people in Washington state on Tuesday morning while sheriff’s deputies were en route to serve him with a domestic violence protection order. The suspect was shot and killed by officers upon arrival. Initially, deputies responded to reports of the 32-year-old man violating a no-contact order but found it invalid since it hadn’t been served to him.
As they approached, they received calls about the stabbings, occurring outside a residence on Key Peninsula. Three victims died at the scene, and one passed away en route to the hospital. The protection order had been obtained by the man’s mother due to his mental health and substance abuse issues, and previous threats against her. Although he was aware of the hearing for the order, he did not attend.
The exact reasons for the suspect’s actions or why he had not been previously served with the order are unclear. Witnesses described hearing gunfire and seeing a significant police presence shortly after the incident.
