This breakthrough, occurring over a week after her report, raised questions about how the footage was preserved since the camera had been disconnected with no active storage contract.
Experts explained that Google Nest devices have backup mechanisms that can temporarily retain data, even for users on a free plan, which typically deletes videos after a few hours. These mechanisms may allow files to be recoverable for several days after being marked for deletion.
The recovery of the footage suggests that companies like Google might retain certain data longer than disclosed, especially when tampering or disconnection occurs.
