A significant winter storm is forecasted to impact much of the United States this weekend, bringing record cold temperatures, heavy snowfall, and ice. Bitterly cold air is anticipated to spread across the central and eastern U.S., increasing risks of hypothermia and frostbite. In New York, snowfall is expected to begin Saturday, with totals between 8 to 16 inches. Winter storm warnings are in effect across multiple states. In response to the storm, several governors have declared states of emergency to mobilize resources. Meteorologists note that such storms are rare and may affect up to 70% of the U.S. population.
