Plans are moving forward to revive the long-closed Hotel Arizona, located next to the Tucson Convention Center. The hotel, which has been dormant since 2012, aims to reopen as the 296-room Arizona Hotel HSL Hyatt, a full-service convention hotel. Renovations will maintain the existing architecture while updating windows and replacing the roof. Developer HSL Properties has already invested $7 million in initial demolition and asbestos removal, with further interior work underway. The Rio Nuevo Board is supporting the project by offering parking spaces post-construction, emphasizing its potential to boost the local economy and attract more events to the area.
The hotel’s reopening had been delayed due to the pandemic and rising interest rates, with exterior construction expected to begin soon. Tucson currently has 993 hotel rooms near the Convention Center, and local developers also have additional hotel projects in progress. No financial incentives for the Hotel Arizona’s redevelopment have been announced yet.
