In Northeast Philadelphia, the family of 25-year-old tow truck driver Aaron Whitfield Jr. is seeking answers following his shooting death outside a smoke shop on Sunday night. Surveillance footage captured a silver Honda pulling alongside his tow truck, after which multiple gunshots were fired. Whitfield and his girlfriend, who was also shot and is now hospitalized, were reportedly trying to enter the store at the time.
Whitfield’s father, Aaron Whitfield Sr., expressed his anguish over his son’s death, recounting the family’s frantic search for him in local hospitals. The police are investigating the shooting but have not yet established a motive or whether it relates to ongoing issues with towing territories in the city.
Whitfield’s parents describe him as a gentle, trustworthy person who loved his job. They have started a GoFundMe to cover his unexpected funeral costs. Police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
