The Center for Oceans, Arts, Science and Technology (COAST) is urging the property owners to properly maintain the building.
COAST Chairman Charles Green noted ongoing issues and pointed out that the building is becoming a public nuisance. They worry that the murals on the property, which reflect local fishing culture, could also be targeted, exacerbated by overgrown vegetation around the site. Debris accumulation poses fire risks, further endangering the area.
The Pacific Grove Police Department is aware of the issues and monitors the property, which is privately owned, and the city requires owners to maintain their properties to prevent public nuisances. COAST aims to restore the building as a center for scientific learning, emphasizing its regional importance. If vandalism continues, COAST plans to take legal action.
